House Moving and Buying Back: What does that mean for everyone?
Lockdown measures have been lifted to allow buyers and renters to move in and buy houses.
After more than seven weeks of the stay at home order, people can now move homes again. Visiting estate agents and letting agents may also now resume their operations.
If you are a potential buyer or renter who was put on hold due to the pandemic, you can return and begin viewing houses on the market to let or buy.
If you bought a new home but were unable to move into them, you should be able to visit it now and prepare for moving in.
From the BBC News:
Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick said those "waiting patiently to move can now do so" as long as it is carried out under social distancing and safety rules.
Mr Jenrick said the government's "step-by-step plan" will enable people "to move home safely, covering each aspect of the sales and letting process, from viewings to removals".
Meanwhile, The Guardian points to a more pessimistic outlook as "the market's mood is in need of refurbishment"
"Howard Archer, chief economic adviser to forecasting group the EY Item Club, describes the move as "relief for the housing market" that "should allow activity to progressively pick up" over the coming months."
"Simon Rubinsohn, chief economist at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics), says: "I suspect people will be fairly wary."
He adds that while the easing of restrictions will unlock transactions already in the pipeline and encourage those who need to move for work or family reasons, most people will wait to see how their circumstances develop before buying."
In a market that remains uncertain, whether you are the buyer, the seller, or the agent, it is always important to do your research.
