Tiny Shed in Devon Goes On Sale For £45,000

Recently, a small beach hut in Devon went on sale for £45,000, located just minutes away from River beach, Teignmouth. With no interior features except for two windows, ceiling strip lights, power points, an electric meter and a consumer unit, this 5.93m by 2.29m wooden shed, painted blue, the freehold shed is attached to a yellow beach hut.

The new owner of the blue shed will have no access to the larger yellow beach hut, but has still received a lot of interest from potential buyers. The shed has been in the same family ownership for over 90 years, and has potential for commercial use, despite being used previously as a summer beach hut for the family.

The reason for the interest in this property is due to the location, being conveniently situated front-lying to the beach, with other properties in the area being sold on average between £150,000 to £200,000 each. These kinds of properties don’t become available often, and when they are sold, it is often to other members of the community.

The average price of beach huts in the UK soared earlier this year, with around a 40% increase from 2020. Beach huts have become extremely popular and can fetch nearly ten times as much revenue, selling at around the same price as the average house within the UK. This is largely due to the population taking advantage of staycations, thanks to the ongoing pandemic.

Renting a hut like this can also be expensive, with some costing as much as £1,000 per week during the high season.
